SHSS Faculty Presents at the 6th Congress of Qualitative Inquiry in Illinois

Ron Chenail, Ph.D.

Ron Chenail, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) presented at the 6th Congress of Qualitative Inquiry (QI2010) held on May 26-29, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

As part of a panel entitled, “Journal Publishing,” Chenail spoke on “Creating the Association of Qualitative Research Editors.” Other panelists included Roy Ruckdeschel, Ph.D., of Saint Louis University, Dorothy Becvar, Ph.D. of Saint Louis University, Carol Rambo, Ph.D. of the University of Memphis, Ian Shaw, Ph.D. of the University of York, Harry Torrance, Ph.D. of Manchester Metropolitan University, and Donna Mertens, Ph.D. of Gallaudet University.

Chenail also presented a paper entitled, “Qualitative Research Graduate Certificate, Diploma, and Master’s Programs: A Review of Emergent Missions, Competencies, and Curricula.”

Chenail is the Editor of The Qualitative Report (TQR) and also serves as the Program Director for the Graduate Certificate in Qualitative Research in the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS) in SHSS. The certificate program is designed to prepare academics, professional research consultants, and graduate students to understand a variety of qualitative research approaches and to conduct qualitative research studies.
