SHSS Faculty Present at the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Annual Conference

Shelley Green, Ph.D. and Douglas Flemons, Ph.D.

Shelley Green, Ph.D., and Douglas Flemons, Ph.D., professors in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in NSU’s Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) presented at the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Annual Conference in Austin. The theme of the conference was “Igniting Systemic Change: 21st Century Brief Therapy.” Their presentation was titled: “Within and Between: Brief Relational Couples Therapy.” In addition they were participants on the panel, “The Ethics of Brief Therapy: To Thyne Own Self Be True,” and on the panel, “Basic Principles and Future Directions.”

Green initiated the course Equine Assisted Family Therapy, which was the first of its kind to be housed in a nationally accredited family therapy program. She was also appointed to a three year term on the Ethics Committee for the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Flemons is the Co-Director of NSU’s Office of Suicide Prevention. His most recent book is Relational Suicide Assessment: Risk, Resources, and Possibilities for Safety, written with Leonard Gralnik, M.D.
