SHSS Faculty Member named to Broward County Board, “Credentialed by 26”
Anne Rambo, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) was named to the board in Broward County of the “Credentialed by 26” grant project funded by the Forum for Youth Investment.
Credentialed by 26 is a nationwide, multi-state grant project designed to increase graduation rates among at risk high school students. It is called Credentialed by 26 to make it clear the goal is not just high school graduation, but moving on to college or vocational training. Thus, young people will be trained for a career and ready to be self supporting by age 26.
On Apr. 28-29 Rambo and several other Broward County board members as well as representatives from the other three projects will travel to Washington, D.C., for a joint meeting. This collaboration will feed into the larger federal grant from the Department of Education that the Broward district received in October 2010 for dropout prevention. That is a 5.1 million dollar grant and Credentialed by 26 (formerly Ready by 21) is a partner on that grant (along with Broward College, the Urban League, and the school district). Rambo is also a community representative on the committee for that project, which is still taking shape.
Rambo has extensive experience in working with children and families, and schools. Her second book, I Know My Child Can Do Better: A Frustrated Parent’s Guide to Educational Solutions, was published in 2001. This book reflects the insights generated by her ChildFit program. ChildFit helps parents to navigate the school system. Rambo helped to found SUPERB, Students United with Parents and Educators to Resolve Bullying, which is now its own fully funded private nonprofit agency.
