SHSS Faculty and Doctoral Students Present at AAMF Conference in Atlanta

Tommie V. Boyd, Ph.D with students at the Annual Conference of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Several faculty and doctoral students in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) presented and facilitated sessions at the Annual Conference of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) held in Atlanta, Ga., on Sept. 23-26. The theme of this year’s conference was “Marriage: Relational and Societal Perspectives.” The presenters included:

Tommie V. Boyd, Ph.D., chair and associate professor and Yulia Watters, doctoral candidate presented a workshop entitled: “Sexuality in Later Life: Opportunities for Reflections.”

Randy Heller, doctoral candidate, presented a workshop entitled: “The Role of the MFT in Collaborative Divorce.”

Ronald J. Chenail, Ph.D., professor, co-presented a workshop entitled: “Developing Scholarly MFT Articles: Tricks of the Trade.”

Debra Nixon, Ph.D., assistant professor, co-facilitated the African, Asian, Latin, American, Native American Open Forum.

The following research posters were presented by doctoral students and DFT faculty:

Rosalind M. Graham, Carol Marsh and Ronald J. Chenail, Ph.D.:  “Qualitative Analysis of Successful Drug Court Case Progress.”

Vicki Winstead and Tommie V. Boyd, Ph.D., Christopher F. Burnett, Ph.D., associate professor, and Ronald J. Chenail Ph.D.: “A Qualitative Analysis of Diverse Couples’ Perinatal Loss.”

Harriet E. Kiviat, Babette M. Rosabal, Yulia Watters, Juliana Deans, and Ronald J. Chenail Ph.D., “Q Grounded Theory of Client Terminated Single Session Cases.”

Cynthia V. Somers, Ronald J. Chenail, Ph.D., Melissa L. DeVincentis, and Harriet E. Kiviat: “Systematic Narrative Review of Discursive Therapies Research.”

The following Research Poster was presented by Ronald J. Chenail, Ph.D., and adjunct faculty members Sally A. St. George, Ph.D., Daniel P. Wulff, Ph.D., and Maureen Duffy, Ph.D., in the Qualitative Research Graduate Certificate Program in the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS): “Formal Grounded Theory of MFT Client Perceptions of Therapy.” Chenail also teaches in that program and serves as the Program Director.
