SHSS Doctoral Students Present at UMASS Conflict Studies Conference

Eight doctoral students from the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), presented at the University of Massachusetts’ (UMASS ) Boston Annual Conflict Studies Graduate Student Conference. The theme of the Conference, which was held on the UMASS campus during Oct. 19-20, was “Conflict Studies: The New Generation of Ideas.”

The DCAR students and their topics included:

Mathew Ituma -“The Intersection of Law & Politics: The case of the United States and the International Criminal Court”

Melodee A. Smith -“STATE vs. VICTIM: The Victim’s Survivors’ Experience of Conflict in a Capital Case”

Angel Joy Storm -“Food Security vs. Food Sovereignty.”

Kipi Fleming Ward – “Driving Conflict: The Media’s Effect on American Politics and Culture”

Amy Melissa Guimond – “Understanding the Experiences of Female American Converts to Islam Post-September 11, 2001”

Patrick James Christian – “Emerging Culture” Conflict Mediation: A Field Manual for Mediating Tribal Conflict”

Aleksandra Nesic – “Crossing Barriers of Communications and Culture in Traumatized Societies.”
