SHSS Doctoral Student Awarded World Bank Scholarship
Gladys Momanyi, a doctoral student in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), has been awarded a prestigious World Bank Scholarship.
The Scholarship Program contributes to knowledge sharing and capacity building in the developing world and provides opportunities for graduate and postgraduate studies leading to master’s and doctoral degrees in development-related fields for mid-career professionals from eligible developing countries.
Prior to entering DCAR’s doctoral program, Momanyi acquired an impressive background in civic service and commitment to advancing women in Kenya and throughout Africa. For over two years she worked on projects related to the advancement of farming and the preservation of the genetic heritage of local food. One of her areas of interest has been the proliferation of small farms and the impact this has had on the increase of violence against women.
Momanyi has been the director of international resource mobilization and fundraising with the Kenya Program for Persons with Disabilities and served as an intern with The Center for Development and Population Activities in Washington, D.C. Currently she is a graduate assistant with the department while she pursues her degree.
