SHSS Alum Receives Grant from Biosophical Institute
Michelle Cromwell, Ph.D., a graduate of the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) and the founder and president of The Multicultural Village is the recipient of a grant from the Biosophical Institute.
Annually, the Biosophical Institute offers a project grant to organizations wanting to complete a project in one of their core areas, such as peace, character, freedom, or friendship. Multicultural Village has won the award for this year’s Project Grant for a project called “Women of Promise: Moving from Poverty to Sustainable Peace.” The project explores how teaching peace building and conflict resolution classes, doing a service learning project, and having weekly guided dialogues will impact members of a 7th grade middle school class. They are working with Mother Caroline Academy, a private school in one of the most violent neighborhoods in Boston. The project is based on implementing the non profit’s three-part model of experiential workshops, service learning, and guided dialogues into a middle school’s core curriculum for the entire school year.
Cromwell is an assistant professor of Social and Political Systems and Center Associate for Multicultural Curriculum at Pine Manor College. She has also served as adjunct professor at SHSS for the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies.
