SHSS Alum Appointed as Faculty at Our Lady of the Lake University in TX
Marcela Polanco, Ph.D., graduate of the doctoral program in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), has been appointed an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
Polanco is originally from Bogata, Columbia. In addition to her doctoral degree from NSU, Polanco received an M.A. in Community Psychology from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogota, Colombia, and an M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from NSU. Prior to her current appointment, Polanco was an assistant professor and the Director of Scholarship in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She is also a member of the international faculty team at Dulwich Centre in Australia, where the focus is on narrative approaches to therapy and community work, training, publishing and supporting practitioners.
Polanco’s teaching and research interests include narrative therapy practices, especially those informed by cultural and linguistic sensitivities, translation and migration of identities, Latin American feminism, bilinguality, and Latin American magical realism.
