Shepard Broad Law Center names Interim Dean
Elena B. Langan, J.D., has been appointed interim dean of NSU’s Shepard Broad Law Center, succeeding Athornia Steele, J.D. The appointment was made effective September 17, 2013.
Langan served previously as an associate professor of law, associate dean of academic affairs and director of the Lawyering Skills and Values program at the Shepard Broad Law Center. She practiced law for 25 years, initially in Maryland and then in Florida, before joining NSU’s law faculty in 2007. Her teaching assignments have included Lawyering Skills and Values I & II, Law Office Management Workshop, Family Law, and Family Law Litigation Workshop, as well as courses within the Masters of Science in Health Law program.
Langan received her B.A. in political science from the Johns Hopkins University and her J.D. from the University of Maryland, School of Law. She is a member of the Maryland and Florida bars, and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the United States District Courts for the District of Maryland and the Southern District of Florida. She has been Board Certified by The Florida Bar Division of Legal Specialization and Education as an expert in the area of marital and family law since 1994.
Langan has been actively involved in the American Inns of Court and was a founding member and past president of the First Family Law American Inn of Court in Miami-Dade County. She has served on various Florida Bar committees, including the Bench/Bar and Needs of Children Committees of the Family Law Section. She also was appointed to serve on the Florida Bar’s Standing Committee on Professionalism and was a liaison to the Florida Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism.
