Shepard Broad College of Law to Co-Host “On the Record: Artists and Advocacy in the Legislative Arena”
Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Shepard Broad College of Law and The Recording Academy Florida Chapter will present a continuing legal education (CLE) program, “On the Record: Artists and Advocacy in the Legislative Arena” at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood at 5:00 p.m.
“Creative arts are central to Florida as a cultural center, a gateway to the Americas, and an important contributor to its long-term economic growth,” said Jon Garon, J.D., dean of NSU’s Shepard Broad College of Law. “The partnership between NSU Law and the Recording Academy highlights the centrality of these issues to South Florida’s growing legal and economic future.”
The CLE program will provide an interdisciplinary review of important legal issues for artists in the music business today and will include a panel discussion moderated by Kenneth Abdo, an attorney, private practice artist advocate and member of The Recording Academy Board of Trustees. Panelists will include Todd Dupler, an attorney and director of government relations for The Recording Academy in Washington D.C.; Academy in Washington D.C.; Joel Richard, legislative counsel for Congressman Ted Deutch; and Dan Warner, GRAMMY, Latin Grammy, and Emmy winning producer and guitarist. The panel will be followed by an informal discussion of the issues over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
“The collaboration between the Recording Academy and NSU Law brings the legal community and the arts community together to focus on public policies that encourage creativity and individual expression,” added Dean Garon. “We are pleased to partner with these industry leaders to bring important legislative issues to our legal community.”
