Shattering the Myths of Prescription-Drug Abuse, Nov. 12
Seven people die each day in Florida with at least one prescription drug considered the cause of death. While prescription-drug abuse has reached epidemic proportions, misinformation and myths about this problem continue to be believed.
In observance of National Drug Facts Week (DFW), an interactive event titled “Shattering Myths About Drug Abuse” will be held on Friday, Nov. 12, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Parker Building, room 123C. The event is co-sponsored by the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences and NSU’s College of Pharmacy. DFW is a health-observance week developed by the National Institute on Drug Abuse that aims to shatter the myths about drug abuse throughout the community.
In order to increase awareness of the prescription-drug abuse epidemic, Jennifer Fass, Pharm.D., clinical assistant professor in NSU’s College of Pharmacy, and students from the College of Pharmacy will present an educational poster session. The event will also include a Jeopardy game on the topic of drug-abuse prevention.
This event is free, and all are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Jaime Tartar, Ph.D., at (954) 262-8192.
