NSU Sharks Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month during Swim Meet

rp_primary_photo 2 editIn support of Breast Cancer Awareness, the NSU men’s and women’s swim teams recently sported their pink tees, caps and towels before pulling out a win against the Florida Tech Panthers  at the NSU Aquatic Complex. It was the first-ever regular season meeting between the two teams in which the Sharks women pulled out a 140-65 win, while the men secured a 127.50-81.50 victory.

Not one, but three NCAA provisional qualifying times were also set at the pool on Friday afternoon. The first was set by NSU’s Florian Mehlan (Sr., Moers, Germany) who won the men’s 1,000-yard freestyle. Mehlan swam a time of 9:17.30 to provisionally qualify for NCAA postseason. The other two were secured in the 50-yard freestyle with one going to each team. Florida Tech’s Nir Barnea (Fr., Omer, Israel) swam the top time of 20.92 seconds, while NSU’s Esau Simpson (Sr., St. David’s, Grenada) was .07 seconds back with a provisional qualifying time of 20.99.
