Sharks Baseball Well Represented on All-Region Teams
The NSU baseball team was well represented on two All-Region teams, with junior closer Sean Albury being named to the first team on both the NCBWA and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams.
Albury, who was also a first-team All-Sunshine State Conference and Daktronics All-South Region second-team selection, had one of the most dominant seasons pitching in relief in program history. He allowed just two runs in 23 and one-third innings pitched for a 0.77 earned run average. Albury struck out 37 batters and limited the opposition to just a .134 batting average. He concluded the season with a 2-1 record and 10 saves in 20 appearances. His 10 saves ranks among the nation’s elite closers.
Senior second baseman Eric McCans was honored on the NCBWA All-South Region first-team as well as the ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region second-team. He finished second in the SSC in batting and had a team-high .406 average on the season with three home runs and 46 RBI. McCans finished with the third most hits among all SSC players and scored a career high 52 runs.
Senior third baseman Rhys Roberts became a consensus All-South Region performer after being listed on both second teams. A two-time SSC Player of the Week, Roberts ranked among conference leaders in multiple batting categories. He finished seventh with a .386 batting average, second with 83 hits, 61 runs batted in and 23 doubles. Roberts’ 135 total bases ranked fourth among all SSC players.
Junior pitcher Isaac Hicks was named a second-team ABCA/Rawlings selection along with junior catcher Haven FitzSimmonds.
A first-team All-SSC honoree, Hicks led the SSC in won-loss percentage with a 9-0 record. His nine wins were also a team high. He concluded the 2010 season with a team best 3.89 earned run average, which ranked eighth in the conference. Hicks also had a team high 23 appearances for the Sharks.
A second-team All-SSC selection, FitzSimmonds had a team-high 10 home runs on the season for NSU. He added 39 runs batted in while hitting .314.
The Sharks concluded their 2010 season with a 35-21 overall record and finished third in SSC play with a 15-9 record. For more on NSU Athletics, visit http://nsuathletics.nova.edu.
