Sharks Baseball Featured In The Sun Sentinel

In a dugout where most of his NSU teammates eagerly leaned forward at the railing, designated hitter Brandon Gomez was the anomaly Monday afternoon, May 23, in Tampa — he hid behind a trash can. The ninth inning had turned Gomez into a self-described nervous wreck.

On the mound, right-hander Devin Raftery sought to send Nova to a place the program had never gone before: The Division II World Series in Cary, N.C. One out was in his way. Two sliders brought the Sharks one strike away.

“The only thing I could think about was one more,” Raftery said. “One more. One more. I want to make history, and I want to do it with those guys.”
