Be Inspired! 2012
Sept. 8 – 30

An artistic response to the Museum’s SHARK exhibition, this installation includes paintings, photographs, poems and prose created by local artists, members, and visitors who are inspired by the theme of the Shark.

AutoNation Academy of Art and Design Open House
Sept. 9, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Sept. 11, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Come visit our newly renovated studios and receive a hands-on introduction to the AutoNation Academy of Art and Design and its exciting new programs. You will have the opportunity to sample different disciplines, including drawing and painting, ceramics, computer/graphic arts, printmaking, photography, and textiles. Meet and speak with our academy director and faculty members about their respective course offerings and workshops. Academy staff members will be present to assist with registration for the upcoming classes and workshops.

Monthly Art Roundtable: CoBrA

Did you know that the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale is home to the largest CoBrA collection in America? Join us for this discussion about one of the Museum’s greatest assets with Dutch art historian Brenda Zwart and the world’s leading expert on the art of the CoBrA movement, Willemijn Stokvis. Learn about our Golda and Meyer Marks Collection and this important post-World War II art movement while viewing some of our fascinating CoBrA treasures.

Reception Honoring CoBrA Scholar Willemijn Stokvis

Hosted in conjunction with the Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Miami
For Donors at the Directors Circle ($2500) level and above.

Join William Stanton, our new Executive Director, and Simone L.J.M. Filippini, the Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in Miami, for a Dutch-style tea in honor of Willemijn Stokvis, the world’s leading expert on art of the CoBrA movement. Dutch art historian Brenda Zwart and American CoBrA scholar Karen Kurczynski will be in attendance.

Private Preview Reception for the 2012 Creative Summer Art Academy Exhibition
(for Museum members at the Academy Supporter ($250) level and above)
Saturday, Sept. 15, 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Join us for a private preview and reception for the Creative Summer Art Academy Student Exhibition displaying works created by the Museum’s Academy students alongside juried works by local artists. The public opening of the exhibition will take place subsequent to the reception.

Opening of the 2012 Creative Summer Art Academy Student Exhibition
Saturday, Sept. 15, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

All 2012 Creative Summer Art Academy students, parents, family members and friends are invited to this opening event, which is installed in the Museum. This unique exhibition showcases the talent and creativity of our exceptional Creative Summer Art Academy students. We are so proud to portray the ways students interpret and express their artistic vision. Exhibition on view through September 30.  For more information please email education1@moafl.org

Shark Tales presented by the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale and the Broward County Library
Saturday, Sept. 22, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

September is National Library Card Sign–Up Month. Join us for family- friendly activities including storytelling (10:00, 11:00 and 12:00) and screenings of the Shark Riddle film (10:30am and 12:30pm), face painting and many other fun activities.

On-site sign-up for library cards and Museum memberships will be available. Exhibition entry fees apply, but children are free with a Broward County Library card. Our Museum Café will offer kid friendly meals.

The Art of Wine and Food Series
Thursday, Sept. 27, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
$35 per person, reservations are required.

Join our own certified sommelier and wine educator Stephanie Miskew as she pairs delicious dishes with selected wines. Seating is limited and reservations are required.
