Rowing’s Varsity Eight Named SSC Boat of the Week
The No. 5 Nova Southeastern University rowing team’s varsity eight was named the first Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Boat of the Week this season after a second-place finish at the UCF Regatta last Friday, March 14.
The Sharks competed against host UCF and fellow Division I opponents UConn and Jacksonville University. The varsity eight claimed second place in 7:03.77. The team consisted of Amanda Hudon (Sr., Sebastian, Fla.), Adrianna Rosario (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.), Kamaye Nichols (So., Miami, Fla.), Daesha Roberts (Jr., Yulee, Fla.), Bethany Warlich (Jr., Galloway, N.Y.), Sarah Woelfer (Jr., Fishers, Ind.), Cassilly Lobaugh (Jr., Milton, Ga.), Marnie McLean (Fr., Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada) and McKenzie George (Fr., Loveland, Ohio).
“In our first official race of the year, we saw huge improvements across the board from where we stacked up relative to these teams last year,” said head coach Heather Barney. “Jacksonville and UCF are programs coming off 2015 championships in their respective conferences and appearances at the 2015 Division I NCAA Championship, so this was a great test to begin our regular season. We know we are definitely moving in the right direction.”
The Sharks will make the trip up to Sarasota, Florida to take part in the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association (FIRA) Championships on April 1-2.
“FIRA’s will give us our first look at the rest of the SSC and South Region, which appear to be shaping up fast and deep this year. We’re eager to line up against the likes of Barry, UCO and FIT.”
