Rowing, Golf Teams Impress in Competitions

Softball
Lauren Lopez drilled a one-run double to right center in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Nova Southeastern University softball team a 1-0 extra-inning victory over No. 24 Rollins on March 28 at the AD Griffin Sports Complex.

With two outs and Rachel Talenfeld on first, Lopez’s hit sailed into right center, giving the speedy Talenfeld more than enough room to cross home plate scoring the game-winning run in the eighth inning.

Baseball
The 10th-ranked Nova Southeastern University baseball team (26-8, 3-6 SSC) split a conference doubleheader with the Florida Tech Panthers (22-13, 6-6 SSC) on March 28 at the NSU Baseball Complex.

The Sharks take on Sunshine State Conference rival Rollins College in a three-game conference series beginning Friday, Apr. 3, at 7 p.m. in Winter Park, Fla.

Track and Field
The women’s track teams posted seven top-10 finishes and the men had six top-10 finishes on the final day of competition at the FSU Relays on March 28.

The Sharks are back in action April 3 for the two-day Pepsi Florida Relays.

Rowing
After winning three races to open the Division II Duals on March 27, the Sharks continued their winning ways at the Division II Duals on Saturday, claiming victory in six more races at Canal 54 in Melbourne, Fla.

NSU is back in action Saturday, April 4, when the Sharks face rival Barry in the Barry-Nova First Annual Dual Race in Miami Beach.

Golf
SSC player of the week Greg O’Mahony led the men’s team with a third-place finish at the Bobcat Invitational held March 24. O’Mahony’s third-place finish (73-71-67-211) marks the second consecutive tournament with a top-three finish.

The men’s team will travel to Miami Shores, Fla. to participate in the Buccaneer Invitational, beginning on Sunday, Apr. 5.

For the women’s team, NSU sophomore golfer Sandra Changkija earned Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week honors recently.

Changkija carded a three-round score of 210 (71-71-68) to win medalist honors by nine strokes at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Winter Springs, Fla. Her performance also helped her team claim first place at the 14-team event. Her scores in the final two rounds of the event were the best of the 76 golfers competing in the talented field.

Tennis
The No. 21 nationally ranked Nova Southeastern University women’s tennis team was defeated 8-1 by Sunshine State Conference rival and No. 4 nationally ranked Lynn University in play recently at the Broward College Courts. The Sharks are currently 12-5 this season and 4-2 in SSC.
