Three Rowers Garner All-SSC Honors

Three NSU rowers received All-Sunshine State Conference honors as announced by the SSC on May 26. Elizabeth Hurley and Alyssa O’Donnell were selected to the All-SSC Team, while Amber Morrell was voted to the All-Freshman/Novice Team.

Voting for the All-SSC Teams was done by the conference’s head coaches and rowing sports information directors.

Hurley and Morrell were part of the Varsity 4 boat that won the SSC title in April, marking the fifth-straight season in which the Sharks had the top Varsity 4 boat at the conference championships. Hurley and Morrell also helped the Varsity 4 to a title at the prestigious Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta as well as a third-place finish at the SIRA Championships. Following the win at the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, NSU’s Varsity 4 was selected for the final SSC Boat of the Week honor for the 2010 season.

O’Donnell competed primarily with the Varsity 8. She was part of the Varsity 8 boat that took third at the FIRA and SSC Championships, as well as part of the boat that was fourth at the SIRA Championships. O’Donnell also rowed on the Varsity 4 boat that was third at the FIRA Championships. In the Sharks’ first regatta of the season, she was part of two boats – the Varsity 8 and the Freshman/Novice 8 – that won races at the Rollins Spring Break Race. As a result of winning the Rollins Spring Break Race, the Varsity 8 was tabbed the first SSC Boat of the Week of the 2010 season.
