Realizing Potential: Faculty Helping Faculty

2016-09-20_UchinRobert A. Uchin, D.D.S. is not only former dean of NSU’s College of Dental Medicine and current faculty member in the Department of Endodontics, he is also one of the college’s most ardent philanthropic supporters.  Dr. Uchin and his wife Marlene recently made a generous gift to establish the Dr. Robert and Marlene Uchin Faculty Development Fund to support dental faculty development.  The couple intend for this new fund to serve as an additional financial resource beyond resources provided by NSU as part of the annual board approved budget process to enhance educational leadership experience and expertise presented in the United States (mainland) and Canada.  Faculty development funds are becoming increasingly popular among NSU donors as a way to help the university attract and retain talented faculty, one of the three main priorities of the Realizing Potential campaign for Nova Southeastern University.

“The heart of the University are its students, faculty, facilities, administration, and staff. Often, the faculty are the least area supported,” Uchin said.  “Marlene and I hope that our gift will  be a nidus to maintain excellence among the faculty at the College of Dental Medicine.”

A member of NSU’s Fellows Society, Dr. and Mrs. Uchin’s previous gifts have included first-edition books and other rarities to the Alvin Sherman Library, and a boat donated to the Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography for research purposes.  Dr. Uchin has more than 20 years of service to NSU.
