Get Ready for Teen Poetry Slam, Apr. 16
NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library is celebrating National Poetry Month by hosting a Teen Poetry Slam on Saturday, Apr. 16 at 6 p.m. The last teen poet left standing at the mic will win a prize! The slam competition is open to teens 13-18 years old.
The slam will be hosted by local poet, Renda Writer, whose credits include opening for HBO Def Poet and performances at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Participants must prepare a minimum of four poems to perform that are each less than three minutes long. Poems must be the poet’s original work – plagiarism is not allowed. The use of props, costumes, or musical accompaniment is not allowed. The order of the performances will be chosen at random.
This event is free and open to the public. Performers must pre-register online at http://sherman.library.nova.edu/helios/events/. For complete slam rules and more details, please visit the Teen Room Blog at http://blogs.library.nova.edu/teenroom/ or call 954-262-5477.
