Raftery Signs Free Agent Deal With Astros
Nova Southeastern University’s Devin Raftery has signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Houston Astros, propelling him to the prestigious #SharksInThePros club that now features 30 players that have signed with a Major League Baseball team and 23 more that have signed independent ball contracts.
Raftery, the South Region and NCAA Division II Baseball Championship tournament Most Valuable Player, struck out 90 hitters in 2016 in 55.1 innings pitched. Raftery led the team in earned run average in 2016, posting a dominant and record-setting 1.14 ERA. A unanimous All-American, Raftery took over the NSU single-season saves record that stood for 19 years and was held by John Hassel, as “Raft” earned 17 saves on the season. His 17 saves were good for the second-most saves in Division II in 2016.
