Purchasing Department Name Change to Office of Procurement Management

The Purchasing Department (PUR) at NSU’s Business Services Division has officially changed its name. It is now the Office of Procurement Management (OPM). The name change better reflects the department’s activities and the strategic nature of the field.

In the traditional sense, purchasing merely reflects the act of acquisition; while procurement encompasses elements of the supply chain such as logistics, spend management, strategic sourcing, contract tracking and compliance, consolidation and standardization, total cost of ownership, value analysis, etc.

Over the past three years the department has been hard at work to develop new methodologies for the acquisition of supplies, services and equipment including the implementation of electronic applications such as the Ariba Spend Management and eSourcing tools as well as the creation of an electronic marketplace which currently holds more than thirty (30) custom catalogs designed specifically for NSU users.

The department has also expanded its standardization and consolidation efforts by collaborating with many end-users to leverage the university spend in order to negotiate aggressive and competitive pricing. Through these efforts the department has been able to competitively bid and implement new contracts for goods and services deriving substantial savings over historical prices. The department has also expanded the use of National and State Group Purchasing (GPO) contracts to take advantage of cooperative pricing.

The Office of Procurement Management will continue to analyze and evaluate areas of opportunities and work closely with end-users and providers to establish the most beneficial and competitive agreements for goods and services that meet the needs and quality standards of staff, faculty and students at NSU.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact Mike Corominas, Director of Procurement at ext. 28840.
