Pride Bite: NSU Student-Athletes Earn D2 Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award
The Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) announced the 2015-16 recipients of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards last week and 42 Nova Southeastern student-athletes were awarded.
The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletic director of the DII institution must be a current dues paying member of the D2ADA. Also, a student-athlete must: have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college-level work and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
2015-16 was another outstanding academic campaign for the Sharks, who averaged a 3.18 departmental GPA. As a league, the Sunshine State Conference had 488 total honorees, ranking eighth in the nation.
The Sunshine State Conference as a whole also had a very successful 2015-16 academic year. Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 Commissioner’s Honor Rolls had a record numbers of student-athletes overall and the student-athletes with perfect 4.0 grade point averages. With an 85% Academic Success Rate, the SSC currently sits second among the 24 NCAA Division II conferences.
