Representatives from NSU’s College of Dental Medicine attend Dentist Day in Tallahassee

Eleven NSU dental students and faculty member, Laurie Gordon-Brown, DMD, attended Dentist Day on Capitol Hill in Tallahassee on February 1-2, 2016. Each year, dentists from throughout the state lobby Florida legislators during about issues critical to dentistry and patient care. NSU’s representatives met with several members of the Broward delegation and other legislators. One bill of importance this session would create a Dental Care Access Fund to be used to increase access to care for indigent populations and underserved areas of Florida while providing student loan repayment relief up to $100,000 per year over five years. Other topics included Medicaid, dental hygiene, water fluoridation, and donated dental services. Brown has been a legislative contact dentist for several years and regularly brings students groups to Tallahassee to experience advocacy on the part of the dental profession.
