Engaged NSU Students ask questions during Town Hall Meeting

(Photo caption: Students wait in line to ask questions during the Town Hall Meeting.)

The 2011 Student Town Hall Meeting, hosted by President George L. Hanbury II had a great turnout! Students were engaged and had lots of questions for our president. Topics covered at the town hall included:

•    Student athletes need more field space for track and field practice
•    International student asked how will we increase diversity
•    Law student has asked for two years if NSU could host a benefit fund-raiser.  It would bring recognition and attention to the university and a fun way to engage undergrads.
•    Can we build a commuter lounge?
•    Financial help for students to stay at NSU.
•    Why did we lose some of our religious holidays?
•    Will there be funding for labs, will there be a DO and Ph.D. combined programs?  Will we have more research and wet labs?  Dr. Hanbury said we are opening software engineering hoping it will lead to masters and doctorate degrees.
•    Students in PVA want to open Miniaci for a reduced rate for rehearsals.
•    Start a football club that could someday lead to Division II Football team.  Dr. Hanbury explained our need to grow undergrad population before this happens and that we are the largest DII school.
•    Students asked about cost to use the Sales Institute video rooms.
•    Yellow ribbon is being dropped for all non-state schools.  We have 200 active veterans and 800 students with yellow ribbon and we match undergrad dollar for dollar and offer scholarships at the graduate level.
