Meixandra Porter

For the second time this season, NSU guard Meixandra Porter has been named Sunshine State Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by VALIC.

Porter (Sr., Chantilly, Va.) led the No. 23 Sharks to a pair of SSC wins this past week by averaging 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 2.0 assists per game. Porter collected 19 points, four rebounds, four steals, and three assists in an 89-43 win over Barry on Jan. 30. She then posted 21 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and an assist in a 78-63 victory over Saint Leo on Feb. 2. In the two games, Porter shot 46 percent (11-for-24) from the field, 44 percent (7-for-16) from three-point range, and 92 percent (11-for-12) at the free throw line.

On the season, Porter ranks second in the SSC in scoring (16.3 points per game), and leads the league in both 3-pointers made per game at 2.6 and steals, also at 2.6 per game. She was also awarded this conference honor on Nov. 12, after averaging nearly 25 points a game through the first two contests of the year. Complete Release
