Phi Delta Chi Educates Children & Adults on Healthy Eating at Community Fest
According to the CDC, obesity affects 1 in 6 children and adolescents in the United States. This year Phi Delta Chi (PDC) Pharmacy Fraternity at NSU’s College of Pharmacy participated in the 13th Annual Community Fest at NSU on February 6, 2016, to bring an interactive and educational game to the public.
This year the PDC booth theme was ‘Happy Plate’ to promote healthy eating. The booth included information related to content found at www.choosemyplate.gov and an area for rolling dice. These 2 dice each had 6 sides, which were color coated to match a specific food group. The activity included kids at the table rolling the dice, depending on what color the dice landed on, the kids then had to grab the fruit/veggies of that particular color and feed the shark. This was done by tossing the colored fruit/veggie through the mouth of the shark, which was a color printout pasted on thick poster board with the mouth cutout. Afterwards the kids were given goody bags that included a choosemyplate.gov pamphlet, puzzles, crayons and stickers.
PDC is committed to providing high quality education and promoting healthy choices to the community. In addition, PDC would like to provide special thanks to NSU President George L. Hanbury II. Ph.D., along with NSU mascot, Razor for stopping by our booth.
