The College of Psychology hosted an induction ceremony for the Psi Chi international honor society on Friday, January 8, 2016, recognizing the academic accomplishments of psychology students at NSU. More than 130 undergraduate and graduate students from the college became Psi Chi members.

The ceremony began with welcoming remarks by Weylin Sternglanz, Ph.D., associate professor at the college and faculty advisor for the NSU chapter of Psi Chi. Sternglanz commended the inductees on their achievement and recognized the continued support of faculty and family members.

This year’s keynote speaker was Haydee Fuentes, M.A., LMHC. She is the clinical supervisor at His House Children’s Home, a shelter and safe haven for neglected and abandoned children and adolescents, who are often from homes with domestic abuse. Fuentes gave an inspirational speech about finding one’s passion and overcoming obstacles.

Following the keynote, Psi Chi chapter president Yuri Castro Flach formally inducted the new members, acknowledging each student in attendance by name. The inductees received certificates; membership cards; Psi Chi pins; and white carnations, which Flach called a symbol of their honorable achievement.

The inductees then joined friends, family members, faculty, and members of college leadership for a celebratory reception.
