Optometry Students Complete Mini MBA Program

Third-year students from NSU’s College of Optometry recently completed a four-day Mini M.B.A. for Optometrists Program at the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship’s Hudson Center of Entrepreneurship and Executive Education. The coursework focused on how to open and operate a successful optometry practice.

The 21 optometry students received instruction on numerous topics such as: creating a business plan, finance and accounting, HR issues, customer service, negotiation, social media marketing and sales. Case studies and exercises were used to illustrate real-life workplace situations and demonstrate the skills needed to manage a small business.

One of the students, Anieka Williams, said, “The program exceeded my expectations.”

Another student, Babita Gounden, said, “It helps you understand general business ideas which are useful no matter what type of practice you end up working in.”

This is the third year that the Hudson Center provided this training for optometry students. For more information about other course offerings, visit www.huizenga.nova.edu/ExecEd.
