Andrew S. Morgenstern, O.D., FAAO

Andrew S. Morgenstern, O.D., FAAO

Andrew S. Morgenstern, O.D., FAAO (Dipl.) (’99) co-authored an article in Military Medicine titled “Simplified Method for Rapid Field Assessment of Visual Acuity by First Responders After Ocular Injury.” The idea highlighted in the article was originated by Morgenstern in 2013 while working as an Optometric Subject Matter Expert at the Vision Center of Excellence at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. If implemented by the military, this new process would change assessment protocol of all battlefield eye trauma.

Military Medicine is a monthly peer-reviewed medical journal covering all aspects of medicine in military settings. It is published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States.

Morgenstern is the founder of OcuSolve, LLC, a healthcare and management consulting firm. He is a clinician with special interest and expertise in anterior segment ocular disease; refractive surgery; corneal ectatic disease detection, diagnosis and treatment; solutions and treatment of refractive error both surgical and non-surgical, eye and orbital trauma, traumatic brain injury (TBI) (military and non-military), military medicine and ophthalmic and medical research. He graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry with a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) with clinical honors. He then completed his training at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (BPEI) at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology. In 2015, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for the NSU College of Optometry for his contributions to the profession, community, and college.
