OIIT’s Blacks in Innovation Technology Fair a Big Hit
In celebration of Black History Month, NSU’s Office of Innovation and Information Technology recently hosted the inaugural, “Blacks in Innovation: A Technology Fair,” for children ages 12-15 years old.
Students from Dade and Broward counties attended and were treated to several hands-on sessions including Coding, Graphic Arts, Robotics, Video Production and Aerial Photography. Additionally, there were drones flight demonstrations, as well as a demonstration of 3-D printing. Attendees learned about Blacks in technology, visited web sites related to learning various programming languages and received free giveaways.
This technology fair provided a great opportunity to impact young minds and to stimulate their interests in computer and information sciences.
Congratulations to the OIIT team who planned and executed the event: Tatiana Arroyave, Claudia Bonilla, Steven Butcher, Gina Clavier, Desmond Cox, Lance Hunt, Mike Lyons, Jasmine Morales, Rochelle Reynolds, Mike Taylor, as well as James Drew and Jesse Perez who volunteered and instructed students during hands-on sessions. Special thanks to LeThesha Harris from the Alvin Sherman Library for her help in planning and reaching out to schools.
