Regional Campuses Announce Leadership Appointments at Miramar and Puerto Rico

Richard Davis, Ed.D., vice president of regional campus network and online education, recently announced the appointment of Ella Gooden, M.B.A. as director of NSU’s Miramar campus and Andres Malave, Ph.D. as executive director of NSU’s San Juan, Puerto Rico campus effective January 2, 2014.

Previously director of special projects for the Office of Regional Campuses, Gooden is now charged with overseeing the operation of the Miramar campus, which includes ensuring it meets the higher education needs of residents and employers located in south Broward and north Dade.

Gooden is no stranger to running an off-campus location.  Prior to leading special projects, she spent more than 10 years growing NSU’s location and market share at the university’s previous student educational center operations in Jamaica.

Gooden received her Bachelor of Science in Management and Economics from the University of the West Indies and her Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University.

As executive director of NSU Puerto Rico, Andres Malave, Ph.D. will oversee campus operations and is charged with increasing the university’s presence within the local communities.  In conjunction with NSU’s licensure office, he will also ensure the academic programs offered at the campus meet the standards and renewal deadlines for licensing and with governmental agencies unique to Puerto Rico.

Prior to accepting the position as executive director of the Puerto Rico campus, Malave served as professor and dean for NSU’s College of Pharmacy for eight years.  He was instrumental in the development of the College of Pharmacy’s international program and the program in Puerto Rico that he directed prior to being named dean.

Malave received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, and both his Master of Science and Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Purdue University.
