The Oceanographic Center’s National Coral Reef Institute (NCRI) hosted, “Understanding Ocean Acidification” a free teacher workshop sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The workshop, aimed at middle and high school teachers, instructed on how to teach about ocean acidification and coral reefs using the latest data from NOAA. More than 30 local teachers from the tri-county area participated.

The teachers learned to use real data from NOAA to teach ocean acidification and how it affects coral reefs. The workshop also included demos and multimedia for classroom use, a background science presentation on ocean acidification, and a tour of the NCRI Marine Histology and Coral Nursery Lab, featuring the land based coral nursery.
