Nursing Alumna is honoree of the Daisy Award at Holy Cross Hospital
Nova Southeastern University College of Nursing alumna Joanna Schwartz, class of 2011, who works in the orthopedic unit at Holy Cross Hospital, was nominated by her nurse manager and former patients for the Daisy Award. Schwartz had a patient that had a pulmonary emboli and she caught it through her keen assessment skills learned at the College of Nursing was able to teach her. She followed through and called a code rescue as well as the doctor, saving her patients life. The patient was so grateful. Due to Schwartz’s quick action, the patient was not moved to a critical care unit and was taken care of. She was recognized by the administrative staff as one of the Daisy Award Honoree’s for her excellent nursing skills as a new nurse.
