Nunez and Stoicovy Join 2015-16 Women’s Basketball Roster
The Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball team and head coach LeAnn Freeland are pleased to announced two more incoming recruits for 2015-16 in Alexis Nunez and Emily Stoicovy.
Both are incoming freshmen, with Nunez coming from Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, Florida, and Stoicovy hailing from Erie, Pennsylvania’s Mercyhurst Prep. Each will add depth to their respective positions, as Nunez is a 6-0 forward, while Stoicovy is a 5-7 guard.
Nunez averaged 10.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 47 percent from the field at Bishop Kenny. She also added 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocks a contest.
“Alexis is a strong forward with a tremendous upside who attacks the basket and rebounds well,” said Freeland. “We expect her to quickly make improvements to her game because of her positive attitude, determination and coachability. She attended our Elite Camp last summer and we were impressed by her willingness to make changes. We look for players who have a growth mindset and Alexis demonstrates that daily. We are excited to announce Alexis Nunez is a Shark!”
Stoicovy had senior stat lines of 9.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She led her 16-5 Laker team to a 7-1 conference mark while earning All-Region selections in both 2014 and 2015, as well as an All-District 10 nod in 2015.
“Emily is a hard-nosed, skilled guard who will fit into our system well because of her competitive nature,” said Freeland. “She plays with determination, can score in a variety of ways, and is gritty enough to take a lot of charges. She had a chance to see our team play at the 2014 Elite Eight in Erie and enjoyed our style of play. After doing some research into NSU, she decided we were a perfect fit for her both academically and athletically. We are excited to announce Emily Stoicovy is a Shark!”
The duo joins two other freshmen newcomers to the 2015-16 roster in Sarah Kelly and Megan Piggott, to combine with nine Shark returnees.
