NSU’s Science Alive Program Visits Afterschool S.T.E.M. at the Alvin Sherman Library

2

NSU student Anita Tadakamalla, Emily Schmitt, Ph. D., and program participants Kayla and Daniel proudly show off their super-absorbent-polymer necklaces.

NSU’s Science Alive, under the direction of Emily Schmitt, Ph.D., recently paid a visit to the free, monthly Afterschool S.T.E.M. program at the Alvin Sherman Library hosted by youth services librarians Kristina Knott and Katherine Labuda.  Science Alive is a program in which NSU science students work within the community to help bring science to life for children of all ages.

Schmitt, Ph.D., and three of her NSU science students spent an afternoon working with children in grades 4-6  from the local community who had  signed up for the Afterschool ST.E.M. program.  Together, they explored the science of polymers with hands-on activities.
