NSU’s Richard Mansell Named SSC Men’s Golfer of the Week

Mansell

Nova Southeastern University men’s golf Richard Mansell was named the Sunshine State Men’s Golfer of the Week for the week ending March 6, 2017 as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Mansell played an instrumental role in the Sharks winning the Armstrong State Pirate Invitational last week. After opening with the tournament’s lowest round score of 65 in the opening round, he continued to lead the remainder of the tournament to finish at 208 (-8) to capture individual medalist honors, six strokes ahead of second place. His opening round of 65 matched his career-best round, a feat he has only recorded once before and what only five other golfers had done before him in NSU history. He is also the only player in school history to hit that mark twice in a career.

Through 54 holes, the Sharks shot a three-round 873 (+9) to finish 24 strokes ahead of a field that was compose of five top-25 teams. The Sharks led from start to finish with the lowest first and second round scores. Their second round of 284 (-4) was the tournament low over the two-day event.

The Sharks will return to action March 12-14 when they travel to Valdosta, Ga. to compete in the annual Southeastern Intercollegiate Classic, which will be hosted by Valdosta State at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
