NSU’s Library Celebrates Veteran’s Day with Special “Salute the Troops” Storytime
At NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library’s Sharkey’s Storytime Fun: Salute the Troops on Nov. 2, children honored Veteran’s Day by enjoying stories about the American flag and reading books about soldiers, such as Drummer Hoff by Barbara Emberley and Meet Our Flag, Old Glory by April Jones Prince.
Children also practiced saying the Pledge of Allegiance and learned patriotic songs, including You’re A Grand Old Flag and Yankee Doodle.
After storytime, the children drew pictures and made thank you cards for veterans. Librarian Meagan Albright then took the cards to the Paralyzed Veterans Association of Florida (PVAF). The cards will be delivered to hospitalized veterans in recognition and gratitude for their service.
Sharkey’s Storytime Fun, a free program for children ages 3-5 years (with caregiver), takes place each Wednesday at the Alvin Sherman Library. For more information about upcoming storytimes, please visit www.nova.edu/library/main or call 954-262-5477.
