NSU’s Huizenga Business School Names Frank J. Cavico Professor of the Year

Frank J. Cavico, J.D., LL.M.

Professor Frank J. Cavico, J.D., LL.M., has been named the 2014-2015 H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship Professor of the Year in recognition of his significant contributions to research, scholarship, and exceptional instruction.

Cavico has been a member of the faculty at the Huizenga Business School for 26 years, principally teaching courses in business law and ethics. Professor Cavico has however, been involved in an array of teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, encompassing such subject matter areas as business law, government regulation of business, administrative law, labor law, health care law, and business ethics. He was the principal faculty member in the creation of the required MBA law and ethics course: “The Values of Legality, Morality, and Social Responsibility in Business”; and he presently serves as Course Leader for that course.  He also serves as the Course Leader for the undergraduate Business Law I course.

In 2000, Cavico was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award by the Huizenga School. In 2006 and 2012, he was honored as the Faculty Member of the Year by the Huizenga School. And in 2014, he was honored as the Professor of the Year by the Huizenga School.

He has served for many years on a variety of university-wide and Huizenga School committees. His principal committee assignment has been to serve for many years as the chair of the Faculty Rank and Reappointment Committee (FRRC), which makes recommendations to the dean on initial faculty rank, contract renewal, promotions, and sabbatical requests.  Cavico presently is serving as chair of the FRRC.

Cavico holds a J.D. degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law and a B.A. from Gettysburg College. He also possesses a Master of Laws degree (LL.M) from the University of San Diego School of Law and a Master’s degree in Political Science from Drew University. Cavico is licensed to practice law in the states of Florida and Texas. He has worked as a federal government regulatory attorney and as counsel for a labor union; and has practiced general civil law, business law, and immigration law in South Florida.

With this honor, Cavico will also become the Huizenga Business School’s nominee for the President’s NSU Distinguished Professor of the Year award.
