NSU’s Fischler School Hosts Second Annual School Choice Conference

NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler School of Education will host its 2nd Annual International School Choice and Reform Academic Conference at the Gallery One Doubletree Suites in Fort Lauderdale, from Jan. 18 to 21, 2013.

The conference aims to create synergy which will lead to new collaborations between international colleagues. These international experts will uncover the latest trends in school choice accountability, the burgeoning business of charter schools, issues of religion and government in school choice and reform, and school choice options such as magnet schools and virtual education.

A key focus of the conference will be the international character of school choice in the 21st Century. Independent schools, magnet schools, virtual schools and governmental funding/vouchers will all be discussed.

The conference is led by co-chairs Robert Fox of the University of Hawaii and Patrick Wolf of the University of Arkansas.

The conference’s key speakers include Jaap Dronkers, Chair of the International Comparative Research on Educational Performance and Social Inequality at Maastricht University; Paul T. Hill, Founder and Director Emeritus of the Center on Reinventing Public Education and Research; and Priscilla Wohlstetter, Director at the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education’s Center on Educational Governance.

Conference sponsors include The Walton Family Foundation, The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice, the William E. Simon Foundation, the Alliance for School Choice, and the Heritage Foundation.

This year’s conference is presented by The Journal of School Choice, the National Institute for Educational Options, and NSU’s Fischler School of Education.
