NSU’s First Ever Forensic Psychology Day held at the Jacksonville Campus
Experts for the First-Ever Forensic Psychology Day.
Faculty and students from NSU joined other experts for the first-ever Forensic Psychology Day at the Jacksonville Campus, which was held Feb. 1. Participating in the event were Lenore Walker, Ed.D., Steven Gold, Ph.D. and David Shapiro, Ph.D. from NSU’s Center for Psychological Services; Judge Ginger Lerner-Wren, Broward County Court Judge, 17th Judicial Circuit; and Stephanie Akl, third-year doctoral student at NSU.
Nearly 100 individuals attended the event, which was created to educate and train on research and public policy issues concerning domestic violence. Undergraduate students, all mental health providers, professionals in the field of forensic psychology, criminal justice professionals, and interested community members were encouraged to attend. The experts participated in a panel discussion “Forensic Psychology and the Law” which was then followed by several breakout sessions:
- Judge Ginger Lerner Wren: “The Mental Health Court;”
- David Shapiro, Ph.D.: “Psychology & Risk Assessment of Future Violence;”
- Steven Gold, Ph.D.: “The Impact of Trauma on Behavior;”
- Lenore Walker, Ed.D.: “Battered Women Who Kill in Self Defense;”
- Stephanie Akl, M.S.: “A Student’s View of Forensic Psychology Training.”
