Edmundson

Nova Southeastern University student-athlete Dana Edmundson was named the Sunshine State Conference Softball Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 6, 2017 as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Batting in the leadoff spot for the Sharks, Edmundson hit .500 in a three-game series against No. 8 Saint Leo to earn this week’s SSC Athlete of the Week award. The Panama City, Fla. native led Nova Southeastern at the plate by picking up five hits in 10 at-bats, while recording five RBI and three runs scored.

Throughout the series, she recorded a hit and stolen base in each of the Sharks’ three games as NSU took two of three from the Lions, who were ranked as one of the top-10 teams in Division II. Her top performance came in the second game of the series when she went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, two runs scored, with a walk and a double. She also hit a game-tying two-run homer in the series finale to put the Sharks in position to win.

For the week, Edmundson recorded a slashline of .500 BA / .583 OB% / 0.900 Slugging while achieving a 1.000% in fielding percentage and stolen base percentage. NSU is now 8-10 on the year, 3-3 in SSC play.

The Sharks will return to play at Auburn-Montgomery in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 7. Originally scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CST, the series has been moved up an hour in anticipation of oncoming inclement weather to 12:30 CST.
