NSU’s Center for Psychological Studies to Offer Psy.D. in School Psychology
Faculty members at the Center for Psychological Studies are proud to announce the launch of a doctoral program in school psychology (Psy.D.), beginning in the fall of 2011. The program is designed for students with an undergraduate degree in psychology or a specialist degree in school psychology. Those who hold the undergraduate degree must have completed a minimum of 18 credit hours in psychology.
School psychology continues to be a growing profession, and prepares students to meet the psychological and educational needs of children and youth. The curriculum builds upon a collaborative framework, to ensure that students become familiar with problem-solving from a systems perspective, focusing on the roles of the child, family, school, culture, and community.
The doctoral curriculum meets the Florida state licensure requirements as both a school psychologist and a psychologist under Chapter 490, Florida Statutes and was recently approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Moreover, the curriculum is consistent with the American Psychological Association (APA) Accreditation Guidelines and Principles.
