#NSUFindYourStrong: Best time to Work Out

Many of us have probably heard our friends’ spiels about why we should work out at some time of day or another. The truth is, there’s no proof that exercising at a certain time of day makes your work out more or less effective. However, the time in which you exercise can affect how you feel about it, and does matter when you’re trying to make a habit out of hitting the gym.

Effective exercise is really about consistent exercise. Whether your work outs are at the crack of dawn, lunchtime, or long after the sun has set, it doesn’t matter. What matters is you find a time that works for you and stick to it.

What time works for you is influenced, in part, by whether you’re a night owl or an early bird. If you struggle to wake up before 9 A.M., adding the chore of morning exercise won’t make it any easier to abstain from the snooze button.

The other part of the equation is your schedule. Some people find it easier to work out in the mornings before their day begins and their responsibilities pull them away from the gym. Others prefer to work out at night after they’re done for the day to work off the stress of the day.

The best way to discover when it’s best for you to work out is through trial and error. Try waking up early for a few weeks – not just once – and see if that becomes an enjoyable part of your day, and pay attention to how it makes you feel. If that doesn’t work, try going during lunchtime (just don’t eat first – your body will be focused on digestion and your workout won’t be as effective). Try different things until you find what works best for you and your schedule. Once you find that routine, you will get into a groove and you won’t want to stop!

Since just getting to the gym is half the battle, let NSU RecWell help you develop your workouts. Some of the services we offer are Personal Training, Fitness Assessments and Gym Tutorials.
