#NSU50 Top Moment No. 1: NSU Athletics is Born
The #NSU50 “Top Moments in NSU Athletics History” starts with the earliest moment in program history, the creation of the athletic program in 1980.
The athletic department was created by NSU Hall of Famer and former NSU president Abraham S. Fischler and the board of trustees, with the intention of boosting undergraduate enrollment. When the decision was pushed through in 1980, NSU was made up 7,000 students with nontraditional, field-based graduate programs scattered in 22 states. The undergraduate program was limited, and athletics would serve as a central role in its growth. Complete Release
