NSU Women Take Home SSC Mayors’ Cup Crown

Women's Squads earn First Place for the first time since 2008

rp_primary_ssc57The full-season 2015-16 Sunshine State Conference Mayors’ Cup standings were released by the league office on Thursday, May 19, and the Nova Southeastern University women’s squads earned first place for the first time since 2008, while the men placed sixth.

By virtue of a conference title in women’s basketball, runner-up finishes in women’s soccer, women’s swimming and women’s golf, and fourth place or higher showings in tennis and volleyball, the Shark women outdistanced all other league schools with a final total of 53.5. The next highest was Saint Leo at 48, while Tampa finished third with 45 points.

On the men’s side, baseball’s second-place finish brought the NSU total to 27.5, just two and a half points behind Rollins in fifth, and only five points out of third. Saint Leo took the men’s standings with 46 points, 10 better than Florida Southern.

Winning the Mayors’ Cup speaks of the consistency, continuity and depth of our women’s teams at NSU,” said Director of Athletics Michael Mominey. “We are proud of all of our female teams who had a great season during the regular season. As you could imagine this is a very competitive and sought-after award given that we are in the best conference in the country – the SSC. We are excited to bring the Mayors’ Cup back to Davie!”
