Pride Bite: NSU Unveils New Veterans Resource Center

Helping our nation’s veterans transition back to civilian life is a priority for Nova Southeastern University. To that end, earlier this year NSU received $25,000 from The Veterans Trust to help establish a Veterans Resource Center that would be a “one stop shop” where student veterans could access a myriad of services and resources. Transitioning to college can be daunting for any incoming student, but when you combine that with the added stress our veterans experience when they matriculate out of the armed forces, you quickly see the need that had to be addressed.

The Veterans Reveterans NSU logosource Center is located on NSU’s main campus in the Rosenthal Building on the second floor in room 218. The room is open from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m., seven days a week.

“We want to be able to provide a place where our student veterans feel comfortable and can get help during their time at NSU,” said Kimberly Durham, Psy. D., Chair, NSU’s Department of Justice and Human Services. “Our vision is to provide our student veterans with information from available academic resources to help with their classwork to information on the depth and breadth of clinical services at NSU to career preparation – truly a place where they can turn to with any questions they may have.”

As part of the event, for the first time, NSU conducted a special orientation ceremony for its veteran students. The ceremony included student veterans receiving a special edition Red, White and Blue NSU “shark pin” that signifies them being part of a special group of NSU students.
