NSU University School Senior Named Semi-Finalist in Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology

The Siemens Foundation recently announced that NSU University School Senior Vladimir Zeltsman was a semi-finalist for the 2017 Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology, the nation’s premier research competition for high school students. Zeltsman’s project was selected out of more than 1860 submitted this year. His entry aims to develop a tip-tilt system for greater precision in the discovery of low-mass exoplanets.
“Vladimir’s work is at and possibly even above the level of college students,” said NSU University School Head of School Bill Kopas. “We are so proud of him and his academic excellence in this competition and at NSU University School as a whole.”
Vladimir, son of Drs. Marat and Nellie Zeltsman, has always expressed a passion for the study of space and Robotics. He has attended NSU University School since second grade and has been involved in many extracurricular activities and has achieved many awards and accolades for his accomplishments. Aside from Robotics, he is the varsity team captain of the NSU University School Rowing team, he is an Eagle Scout, and much more.
He has hopes of attending MIT or Georgia Tech for college, with a plan to earn a major in mechanical and aerospace engineering. His ultimate career goal is to become an aerospace engineer, work for NASA, and travel to space as an astronaut one day.
