NSU to Prohibit Hoverboards on Campuses and Sites
Due to the safety concerns that have been raised by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regarding hoverboards, and the potential detrimental impact to the safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors to our campuses, NSU leadership, working with the Pan Student Government Association, has elected to institute a ban on hoverboards (also known as smart boards and self-balancing boards).
Effective May 1, 2016, the operation, charging, storing and use of hoverboards will be prohibited on all NSU campuses, sites and facilities. Those in violation of this policy may be subject to disciplinary action.
This ban may be revisited if and when the CPSC completes its investigation and revises its current recommendation advising caution when using hoverboards.
The new policy on hoverboards will be included in the 2016-17 Residential Living Guide. For more information about the use of motorized items and NSU’s other safety-related policies, please review the 2015-16 NSU Residential Living Guide.
