NSU to Host Heroes Bowl Football Game, Jan. 31

Nova Southeastern University (NSU,) the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the Miami Dolphins, the U.S. Navy SEALs, the Dellenbach Foundation and Operation Lift Hope will the inaugural “Heroes Bowl” to benefit homeless veterans in our community. The event, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 31, noon – 5:00 pm, will be held the AutoNation Field, 7600 SW 36th St. on NSU’s Fort Lauderdale-Davie campus (behind the Jim & Jan Moran Family Center Village/Mailman Segal Center for Human Development.)

The issue of homelessness is of paramount concern for communities across the United States. One sub-set of those who are homeless, and one such group that is growing fast, is our veterans. To help, the First Annual Heroes Bowl was developed as a way to raise funds for homeless veteran intervention.

The day’s event consists of live demonstrations by the U.S. Navy SEALs Team, Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Fire Rescue personnel and a flag football game that will feature BSO police and fire rescue personnel, SouthCom military personnel and Miami Dolphins and NFL alumni.

The event admission is $10 (active/retired military personnel admitted free,) with proceeds going toward Operation Lift Hope, a group formed in the Fort Lauderdale area with the mission to help those who find themselves homeless, especially our veterans. Some reports show that approximately 18% of those who are homeless in Fort Lauderdale are veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. For many, they wanted to help but didn’t know where to start – that’s why Operation Lift Hope was founded. You can find more information about Operation Lift Hope ONLINE.
